Ford Motor Co has announced that its European sales in the month of October have increased by 13%.
However, the company has also expressed concern about the strength of the market in 2010, when car-scrapping incentives end.
While addressing a press conference, the sales chief of Ford Europe, Ingvar Sviggum said, “This is the strongest October we’ve had in Europe for past 12 years”.
Further, he added that Ford is now the second-best-selling auto brand in Europe.
The Dearborn, Mich., company's vehicle sales in its 19 core European markets touched 121,000 mark during the last month.
In October, Ford’s European share was at 8.8% up 0.5% point as compared to the same period of 2008.
Moreover, Mr. Sviggum said, “I was unsure how the European market will fare since many countries plan to end their scrap page incentives. The incentives, which give consumers money if they trade in an old vehicle for a new one, helped boost sales throughout 2009.”
Sviggum told reporters that sales in the nation dropped 25% after Germany completed its incentive program in September.
During the period of January-October, Ford’s European sales were down by 3% as compared to the same period of the last year at 1.22 million vehicles.
