Madrid Teachers on Roads Protesting Against Austerity Measures

Austerity measures have led the high school teachers go on strike as they are strictly against the cuts in education sector. The two-day strike of the teachers has disrupted the education atmosphere as thousand of pupils across the region do not have mentors to teach them.

The teachers in Madrid have been protesting against their right and their voice has echoed across the country.

The cut in the education sector is a resultant of the government plan that intends to taper its financial deficit to 6% of GDP this year, which was more than 9% in 2010.

Nearly 200 teachers assembled near the downtown high school against the government plan that has asked for raising the number of teaching hours in order to cut some jobs. The teachers were seen wearing green T-shirts which exposed a slogan "Public Education for All".

The teachers wanted the President of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre to come to the site and address them, these teachers were blowing whistles and banging pots to make the authorities her their voice.

The teachers have been receiving a mass support for their call, as one of the parents who supported their effort stated, "If we let them make these cuts, what will they do next year? Just close down the schools?”.
