In recent news, it has come to light that after being accused of participating in the killing of six Jesuit priests in El Salvador in 1989, Inocente Orlando Montano has been arrested once again for making false statements on U. S. immigration forms.
It has been reported that the accused is among those indicted in Spain for the 1989 slayings of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter, though Montano remained defiant on the allegations.
As per the principle of cross-border jurisdiction, which allows prosecution of some crimes even though they were committed in another country, at Montano's court hearing in Boston on Tuesday, a federal judge issued indictment against Montano and the other Salvadorans.
It has been reported that the accused had even made futile attempts to leave the country last week, but a Globe story exposed the truth about his whereabouts in the Boston suburb.
With the story getting attention from Spanish people, it’s not yet clear if Montano will be extradited to stand trial in Spain in the killings or not.
However, no confirmation has come from the State Department on the issue. Moreover, if found guilty, Montano could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years.
