Iberia to cancel 440 flights due to cabin crews strike

Spain's Iberia airline has announced that it is going to cancel around 440 flights following a two-day strike by its cabin crews supporting demands for increase in wages.

Iberia has made a statement on its site that the strike would badly affect its domestic air services as well as its European and trans-Atlantic flights.

Airlines’ labor unions that consist of around 4,300 staff members have called the strike. These unions are demanding a pay hike as there was no increment in pay for the last four years. They are saying that the company has increased the pay for some employees including pilots.

The labor union has also planned a similar strike on November 10 and 11.

The airline said that affected passengers would be provided with refunds or tickets on other days according to their wish.

In its statement, the company has apologized that the unions has invoked the strike at a time when the global slowdown has hit the aviation industry so hard.
