Spain offered on Monday that it permit Britain and other European nations to use its airports as stopovers to get tens of thousands of travelers stuck by the volcanic ash could traveling again.
While talking to media, Spain’s infrastructure minister, Jose Blanco said, “All of Spain's airports were open Monday. More than a dozen closed for a while Sunday because of the ash. Most of those were in the north of Spain, but they also included the one in Barcelona, the country's second largest city.”
Further, he said that almost 200,000 Britons could be stranded in Asia, the Americans or anywhere else in the world.
He said that Spain will open up landing slots for planes initially planned to go to Britain.
As per theplan, Britons stranded in the Americans as well as Asia could be brought to Spanish capital of Barcelona and would then be sent home, most likely through train.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters, a Spanish official said, “Britons who are stranded in Spain itself could be taken to Pamplona or Bilbao and Vitoria in the Basque region, and from there Spain will try to get them home by train, ferry or bus, services that Spain will beef up for this emergency.”
