According to the recent releases made by the Spanish environmental chiefs, it was said that the country will break its EU-enforced traffic pollution limits.
Moreover, officials told reporters that recent population growth has dissatisfied its hopes to meet the terms with legislation imposed by Brussels in 2001.
Further, it said, “We are breaking all of Brussels’ limits, except for sulphur dioxide.”
In the meantime, they also blamed a higher than desired growth in the demand for energy in the past couple of years.
At present, Spain is only adhering to sulphur dioxide quotas, but is crossing limits set down for both nitrogen as well as ammonia.
While talking to media, Secretary of State for Climate Change, Teresa Ribera said, “We are breaking all of Brussels’ limits, except for sulphur dioxide.”
In 2008, the country had emitted almost 1,236 million tones of nitrogen dioxide, an increase of 46 percent as compared to this year.
