Spanish Govt looks for ban on smoking in Bars and Restaurants

According to the Spanish government, it is aiming to extend its smoking ban at workplaces to bars, cafes, restaurants and other enclosed public areas by amending the anti-tobacco law in 2010.

In addition to this, all health as well as social rights groups welcomed the government’s decision.

However, around 30 percent of the Spain’s population admitted to smoking either daily or occasionally in a recent health study conducted in the country.

The fresh numbers about smoking came into light three years after the ongoing anti-tobacco law took effect, prohibiting smoking in working places.

Meanwhile, people have condemned the government for not taking action against smoking in bars, restaurants and other leisure establishments.

While talking to reporters, Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez said that her department is working hard on finalizing the bill.

Further, she said, “Ireland and Italy have already banned smoking at bars, restaurants and other leisure establishments without causing any harm to their economy.”
