The leading export markets are looking forward for serious recovery in the Spanish market.
Council for leather exports (CLE), the leading body for development of Indian leather industry, is hoping to establish its first leather show in Madrid, Spain on March 22-26, 2010.
Even though, the council is holding road shows as well as B2B meetings over the past couple of years, CLE, for the first time, will host a show on a big scale to showcase leather products like finished leather, footwear, leather garments, leather goods and other goods as well.
About 50 leather companies from India will take part in the show.
While talking to reporters, executive director of CLE, Ali Ahmed Khan said, “The past focus-Spain market promotion programmes have immensely helped create awareness about Indian leather sector. Indian companies have found Spain a very promising market not only for exports but also to establish business collaborations such as joint ventures or marketing tie-ups with Spanish companies.”
Leather exports to Spain have risen in the past couple of years, largely in footwear exports, because of continuous business promotion activities.
Spain is the ninth largest importer of leather and leather products in the world. In 2003, leather import to the country from India was $2.22 billion, while in 2007 it hit the mark of $3.82 billion, growing at a CAGR of 14.15%.
Spain is also the sixth largest importer of leather products from India, totaling for over 6% of India’s total leather products export.
