Alma Tour Passengers Left Stranded at Airport

Failing to pay debt, Alma Tour made almost 1,000 passengers stranded at Bulgarian Sea Airports in Burgas and Varna.

Flights of these passengers were cancelled by Bulgaria Air to whom Alma Tour owes EUR 3.6mn. The incident took place in September and earlier in this month, Bulgaria Air said Alma Tour was not ready to pay them loan which was more than USD 25 million.

Spanish Airport Bidding On

According to the reports, the owner of Gatwick and London City airports, the owner of Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport and the German insurer Allianz SE have all signed a deal as per which, they will together bid for airports in Madrid and Barcelona.

The next bidding round is in October and the Global Infrastructure Partners LLC has placed a proposal for Spanish hubs. Regarding the situation, no comment was received from Global Infrastructure.

Bidding for Airports in Spain

Recent reports have revealed that the bidding to take on the stakes at Barcelona and Madrid airports has started. There are entries that have come from five countries so far. This has come after the decision of the government to privatize the airport facilities on a partial basis.

The government is of the hope that they shall be able to collect about 5.3 billion Euros by selling two of the major cities in Spain. It could also earn a lot of public deficit for the public coffers.

Bangalore-Based GMR Group to Bid for Spain Airports

The Bangalore-based GMR group, which has built the Istanbul airport, and Delhi and Hyderabad airport, and also operates them, is thinking to bid for 90.5% stake in the Barcelona and Madrid airports.

The news came in to the lime light when Spanish Government took the decision for the sale of 90.5% stake in these airports to tackle the increasing debt. The contract would be for 20 years, and could get extension for another five years.

Flying High on Cooking Oil!

In a startling revelation, it has been reported that Thomson Airways have started a new era by using cooking oil to run their airplanes! Unbelievable as it may seem, it has been revealed that they have started this as a part of a biofuel use to be able to reduce pollution and give out a little less carbon to the air.

After it receives a clearance for safety on July 28, this fuel is going to be more widely used in flying flights from Mallorca, Palma, and Birmingham and so on.

Emirates open flights to Spain

Emirates Airline will start its non-stop direct flights from Dubai and Madrid from August 1 to create the first air services between United Arab Emirates and the popular southern European country.

With this, Emirates Airlines will fill the gap in its European network and underlines growing trade and traffic between the both nations. It will be the fourth new route for Emirates in 2010, after Tokyo, Amsterdam and Prague.

Low-cost airline in Spain boost

According to the reports, budget airline easyJet will add more flights to the country from Robin Hood Airport, near Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

The carrier has announced recently in a press conference that its new routes will go to Barcelona and Palma from April 2010, along with several other European nations.

First Flight for A400M Next Week

The European aircraft developers announced that Airbus’ long-delayed A400M military transport will make its very first appearance during the week starting December 7, "weather permitting".

The A400M will replace the old military cargo carrier in several European air forces; however, its development has been determined by series of serious technical faults and its in service data has been extended from 2009 to 2013.

Airbus refuses cancellation of SA defence contracts

According to the report published in the international financial newspaper, La TribuneA said, “The EADS was seriously considering canceling most of the orders that have already been signed, worth about 400 million euros, in the framework of a partnership with (South African) industry (notably with the Denel and Aerosud groups) and which were linked to the contract to purchase eight A400Ms.”

Earlier, South Africa confirmed that it had cancelled its order for eight A400M military transporters, citing cost escalations. The A400M program was already three years behind schedule.
